Vasectomy Pain After A Week

I was about 50 years old when my flow of urine slowed to a trickle. I never seemed to be able to get my bladder empty. Several times each night I would have to get up for a bathroom call. I was one of the 50% of all men whose prostate had enlarged. Medical terminology defines it as Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy where the prostate gland becomes swollen and inflamed and the flow of urine is impeded. Untreated it can cause considerable discomfort and pain. It is commonly treated by the medical doctors with these drugs:

· Proscar

· Pros-gard

Their potential side effects of decreased potency, libido, or impotency quickly canceled them for me. I didn’t really consider them anyway as this was after I made my vow to eliminate drugs from my life.

Why did I fit into this 50%? It could have been any of the following:

· I ate a high fat diet

· Drank some beer

· Never ate fiber

· Drank a lot of coffee

· I had a vasectomy at 30

· Took occasional antihistamines

I was then involved in the study of alternative health and was in the process of changing a lot of old habits and was modifying the above list. I looked in Linda Page’s Healthy Healing Book and tried her nutritional therapy plan for prostate the next three weeks as follows:

· Lemon juice and distilled water

· Fresh foods, low fat, high fiber

· I avoided caffeine, sugar and diet pop, no beer

· I took a Saw Palmetto supplement

Before the end of the first week the flow had increased. By the end of the three weeks I was back to normal. A few times over the next year the problem would reoccur. I simply took my Saw Palmetto supplement for two or three days. For the past fifteen years I rarely encounter a prostate issue. Apparently it is cured.

I am not sure the Saw Palmetto was what cured the problem. I have consumed many homeopathic remedies as the years passed. Sometimes I take a homeopathic remedy for one thing and find that another issue in my life disappears. I believe that men can cure themselves of prostate issues with a few changes in their diet and lifestyle and drugs are never necessary.

• My biggest FEAR in life is becoming dependent.
• The idea of depending on my boss, a medical doctor, expensive insurance or the government for my health care did not feel right.
