Can You Get Pregnant Vasectomy

The most common form of birth control is oral contraceptives or the pill, as they are commonly known as. But there are also other forms of birth control that are easily available and are as effective if not more. One such form of birth control is the birth control shot.

The birth control shot is a type of progesterone, which is given to the woman through an injection every three months to prevent pregnancy. This injection may be given in the upper arm or the buttocks. The progesterone in the shot prevents the ovulation and fertilizing the egg. This shot needs to be taken within the first seven days after the start of the period so that the pregnancy can be avoided. The shot can also be taken by breast feeding moms and is considered extremely safe for lactating women.

The good thing about this shot is that its effects are reversible and a woman can get pregnant within a period of 4 months to 18 months after stopping the shot.

There may be doubts about the efficiency of these shots. Reportedly they are effective 90 percent of the times and only one out of 100 patients using them became pregnant. However, the effectiveness of the same may be affected if the subsequent shot is not taken within three months. You can talk to your doctor about your health before taking the shot so as to understand adverse effects of the shot, if any.

It is important to use an effective birth control or else, the whole purpose of using a method to prevent pregnancy is defeated. If your method to avoid unwanted pregnancy is not very effective, these shots can definitely be recommended as they are considered to be one of the most effective methods to prevent pregnancy.
