Vasectomy Chicago

You may feel like you can take any of the different types of birth control so you have no particular preference as you decide on which one to use. If that’s the case, then the factor that might tip the scale toward a particular choice could be the failure rate of the product. No method of pregnancy prevention is perfect, and there are instances of failure, even if many are quite low. But knowing the rates for the various methods might help you decide which one is best for you.

The highest failure rate of it is the natural method. This is where no artificial means are used to try to prevent a pregnancy, but the couple tries to follow the rhythms of the woman’s own body. They try to have sex only in a time frame where the woman is unlikely to be ovulating. Unfortunately, because no woman’s cycle is identical every month, no calculation can be entirely accurate. This natural birth control method has a twenty-five percent failure rate and one out of every four women using this method will become pregnant.

The types of birth control with the lowest failure rates tend to be the injections and patches. If you get the monthly Lunelle injection, for example, the failure rate can be as low as zero point one percent, going only as high as one percent. The patch, worn one week at a time for three weeks, has about the same percentages. The Depo-Provera birth control shot, which lasts for three months, has an only slightly higher failure rate, of three percent. All of these methods have a better rate than the basic orally ingested pill, with its five percent rate.

The types of birth control that have the highest failure rates, apart from natural birth control methods, tend to be the barrier methods. These are the ones that try to prevent sperm from getting to an egg to fertilize it. So things like condoms, diaphragms, and even a sponge imbued with spermicide have higher rates than methods that adjust hormone levels. If all other factors are equal and you can freely decide among all methods, then you might want to incline toward those with the lowest rates of failure.
