Vasectomy Effects

If you are a woman who has had her tubes tied, there’s a chance you may be suffering from tubal ligation side effects. If you are lucky, your doctor has listened to you and is attempting to help you with your post tubal ligation syndrome (PTLS). If you are not so lucky, you have one of the many doctors who do not believe in these potential side effects and who will simply tell you it’s all in your head.

That is unfortunate is you do suffer. Many women do. However, the exact number is simply not known. From all the studies and abstracts available on the subject or looking at portions of the subject, quite frankly it seems a matter of “I’ll see it when I believe it” with many of those in the medical field.

What is fortunate is that there are those who do believe it and not just the unlucky women who suffer from these tubal ligation side effects. With these medical personnel you may have three options available to you to change your circumstances. But each of these options also has its own concerns which you will need to study further in order to make your own decision.

Birth Control Pills

The first option is going on birth control pills. Seems a rather silly answer when you may have had your tubes tied in order to not to have to mess with taking a pill every day. However, some doctors including those on the not believing side think that any symptoms from PTLS are the result of a hormonal imbalance.

Those who believe in PTLS think that the surgery may have impacted your hormone production in some way such as cutting off or impacting the supply of blood to your ovaries, fallopian tubes or even the uterus. That’s going to impact the hormones you should be receiving. Those in the non-believing camp think the problems are caused due to the woman having been on the pill before her surgery and then going off the pill after surgery. I’m not sure what they think about the women who have their tubes tied right after giving birth and who suffer from tubal ligation side effects.

Hysterectomy

The next option is undergoing a hysterectomy. This, too, might be a surprise as you already had a surgical procedure in order to become infertile. But some studies have shown that there is an increase in women of having subsequent hysterectomies at 3 – 4 times following their sterilization surgery. If your post tubal ligation syndrome symptoms can’t be relieved any other way, this is something to consider with your doctor. Be sure though that you understand the risks of having this further surgery against it’s possible problems. You will most likely be given hormone replacement therapy so you should research this as well.

Tubal Reversal

The last option for minimizing or eradicating your tubal ligation side effects is tubal reversal. Many women suffering from post tubal ligation syndrome turn to this surgical procedure as a means of alleviating their symptoms. Of those using the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, which I use here since they maintain a data base of information on their patients, to relieve their symptoms, 90% cited improvement and a better quality of life making this a very viable alternative.
