Vasectomy Underwear

I watched the House of Representatives debate the health care bill on Saturday. On the one amendment where a vote was taken, the Stupak Amendment, the House voted to not allow any funds to be used for abortions. I understand that there is already a law that says that Medicaid funds cannot be used to pay for an abortion. If someone is receiving health care without paying into the plan, then they should receive basic health care only. They should not be allowed to choose any type of elective surgery, including abortions.

This new amendment would prevent any insurance company which wants to be part of a pool of insurance companies participating in any government subsidized program for example the public option pool or Federal Employees Health Insurance pool from offering coverage for abortions. This is really not fair to the people who will be paying into these plans. What if I say that I don’t want my tax dollars going to pay for Viagra. Would this be okay for most of America. I would say probably not for the men who needs this product. What about tax payer funds for people who want to lose weight. What if I say “Just don’t eat so much and you will lose weight without surgery”. You can see my point. We all have different opinions of how we want our tax dollars spent.

Too many people in America just has this holier than thou attitude when it comes to abortions. Seems like these same people would have a problem with sleeping with someone without the benefit of marriage, divorce and any other thing they consider wrong. People like to say that having an abortion is “killing a baby”. If you believe this then you should also be willing to say that insurance plans should not be allowed to pay for a vasectomy. After all when a man has a vasectomy it means that he is killing the chance for a baby to be born. I just noticed that most of the people who are against abortions are older men. The men should stay out of the conversation of abortion. It should really be up to the woman who is carrying the child.

What disturbs me most about this amendment is that it will be most unfair to young women who are paying for their own insurance and older people who really need the best insurance plan they can find. What if the best insurance for cancer also offers abortion coverage. Will I as a 51 year old woman working for the Federal Government be deprived of this insurance plan because of this amendment. If so, it is truly not a good amendment to have in any health care bill. Furthermore the idea that the private sector insurance plans are not subsidized by the government does not make any sense because if nothing else the hospitals treating the patient is probably receiving some Federal money.

Our Congressmen and Congresswomen really need to take a second look at this amendment to make sure it is not taking away the right of many in favor of the preference of some.
